THE ladies from Bromsgrove Golf Club took a step closer to national glory by winning the first round of the White Webb NAPGC Championships on Sunday.

The team of Kerry Coulter, Bev Dodds, Alma Busby, Jenny Simnett and Val Price beat Thornhill 3.5-1.5.

Bromsgrove's ladies then drew 2.5-2.5 against Sapey Golf Club.

The club's Worcestershire Handicap team endured a difficult start to the season away at Redditch rivals Abbey Park - losing 5.5-0.5.

Father and son pairing Clive and Pete Nash progressed into round three of the Birmingham and District League Chairman's Cup by getting the better of a duo from Brandhall GC at Rose Hill Golf Club.

The club now have two pairings in the quarterfinals, which are set to be played on July 16.

The senior men earned a respectable draw with North Worcester over the weekend.

John Foster and Chris Steel lost 3-2, but Gilbert Ison and Andrew Borg won one hole.

Tony Aykroyd and John Kelly lost 7-6, while Tom Jones and Charles Howes were beaten 4-3.

Derek Taylor got Bromsgrove back on track by winning one hole, before Graham Banner and George Brooks won 6-5 to tie the scores.

Bromsgrove also drew with Harborne in the West Midlands League.

Chris Fox and Peter Lawler won 6-4, but Matt Dale and Peter Fox were beaten 5-4.

Chris Mole and Dave Smallwood lost 3-2 but Ian Barber and Dave Thompson made sure it was honours even by winning 3-2.

Sidney Ison won Bromsgrove's senior men's stableford competition with 38 points, while Kenneth Mackie was runner-up with 36.
