SPEEDING traffic and vandalism were the topics among a chairman's report at a popular parish meeting.

Stoke Parish Council chairman Thelma Roll told the audience at the group's parish assembly the village still had problems with speeding traffic, especially in Hanbury Road with huge lorries.

She said there were also issues with vandalism particularly in Ryefields Road. But she said a light was due to be installed near the doctor's surgery and a camera was also set to go up near the school.

After the report, residents were asked to participate with any ideas or suggestions they had for the group.

One resident called for action in Westonhall Road where many cars went around an "s" bend and almost ended up head-on with other vehicles.

She said there should be clear lines around the bend so drivers could see what side they were supposed to be on.

Another villager thought there should be 30 mph signs that lit up in Hanbury Road to help reduce speeding.

He added: "We need bigger and clearer signs than the small plate sized ones we have now. We need something that people will take notice of."

Another suggestion was for an illuminated sign near the cricket club in Hanbury Road warning lorry drivers of low bridges, as once they had passed Epic it was often too late for them to take alternative routes.

Cllr Roll invited residents to attend a meeting and put across their concerns if the group asked a representative from the highways department to attend.
