THE May meeting was held at Betty Gibbs' house due to the village hall being used as a polling station. President Betty Wolsey welcomed 14 members to the meeting.

Mary Hartley made a brave effort to attend, despite experiencing mobility difficulties. Members expressed their wish that Isobel Thompson has a speedy recovery from her present illness. Future business was outlined, then Joan Ellis from the NFWI read out the following resolutions for discussion:

1) Farm Gate Milk Prices. Farmers are experiencing financial difficulties in maintaining their businesses due to a shortfall in income. Any increase in the price of milk to the public appears to be swallowed up by the middlemen before reaching the supplier. It was agreed that the public should be made more aware of this problem.

2) Care of the Environment. It was felt the amount of waste due to excess packaging should be reduced. Wheelie bins and boxes are now in use by most households, but there are a few problems to be sorted out.

Everyone then enjoyed afternoon tea with fresh sandwiches and homemade cakes. A raffle was drawn.

The next meeting will be at Stoke Prior Village Hall on June 2, when a presentation entitled 'out of India embroidery' will be given by Mrs Norman. There is also to be 'a piece of patchwork' competition.
