DAVID Powles was the man in the runs in the last weekend's rain-affected weekend fixtures when rattling up more than 100 but his efforts failed to bring Pershore to victory.

Powles was unbeaten on 42 alongside Lee Wilks (40no) when Saturday's Birmingham League contest at Whitchurch was abandoned due to heavy rain.

The away side had managed to reach 97-2 thanks to an unbroken stand of 86 off just 15 overs when conditions became unplayable.

The next afternoon, Pershore travelled to Barnt Green for a Clubs League clash and fell just 12 runs short of the home side's all-out total of 152.

The visitors' young team were on top for much of the match and were unlucky not to claim an impressive victory over their more experienced opponents.

Opening bowlers Luke Dalley (4-44) and Lachlan McKenzie (3-39) reduced Barnt Green to 40-5 only for the hosts to stage a recovery.

Rain caused an interruption with the final pair at the wicket and only 111 runs on the board but the resumption saw the hosts add a further 41 before being parted.

Pershore's batsmen found conditions equally difficult and they were soon reduced to 24-4. However, a stand of 91 between Powles and McKenzie put the visitors back on track.

Powles was dismissed for an excellent 67 off only 63 balls after which the away side found the asking rate too much and they were finally left stranded on 140-8.
