THE Worcester Triathlon Club had great success at the European Duathlon Championship in Hungary.

Four members of the club were chosen to represent Great Britain in the age group team, having qualified at earlier races back home.

The star was Michelle Parsons who won a gold medal by easily winning her age group of 35 to 39 years by more than 24 minutes.

Parsons clocked an excellent overall time of two hours nine minutes 40 seconds which meant she was the fastest age group lady of the day.

Nick Yarworth's first international duathlon race brought an astounding result as he clinched bronze in the 45 to 49 year section in 2-06-17.

It included the fastest bike split time of the day.

Marc Scrivens, also in his first international duathlon, performed well too to finish fifth in the same age category in 2-09-07.

Finally, Les Bailey was fifth in the 65 to 69 years in 2-25-40 which was pleasing as he was still regaining fitness after a bike injury.

The race, in the central square of Debrecen, the attractive second city of Hungary, gave the many spectators plenty of excitement.

The first run was four laps of 2.5km through the city streets, followed by two laps of 20km on the bike which was on a technical course with tricky turns.

Finally, there was a run of two laps of 2.5km with the finish in the city centre.

The weather conditions were good for racing though an early morning shower made road surface slippery in the early stages of the bike section.
