NEWTOWN Sports Colts completed a remarkable hat-trick as Mercian League U14 cup winners, with the same team having won at the U12, U13 and now U14 age groups.

LITTLETON JUNIORS 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 3

In this year's final, they faced last year's champions, Littleton Juniors, in what turned out to be a great game of football.

The opening spell was evenly contested with the new midfield shape of Powell, Edwards, Allison and White all sticking to their tasks. Roskams shepherded his fellow defenders, Elmes, Jaye and Scullion, so that Johnson in goal was rarely troubled.

At the other end, Buckle and in particular Hale, began to cause Littleton problems. Hale created himself several half-chances before he started another mazy run, with the angle narrowing he slid the ball across the face of the goal where Buckle came storming in at the far post to hammer the ball home.

With their tails up, Newtown pressed, but a resolute Littleton team had other ideas. However, shortly before half-time Newtown did increase their lead. A corner from Edwards was superbly nodded home by Scullion.

In the second-half, Crane and Caffull came on for the Colts, as Littleton looked to use the breeze to their advantage. Both teams created several half chances, but with 10 minutes left Hale settled the contest with a well taken goal following good work by Allison, Crane and Powell.

Newell and Baker made their contributions for Newtown, as Littleton looked for a consolation goal. Newtown who held on to lift the trophy, with Powell getting the official man-of-the-match.
