A YOUNG woman died suddenly after collapsing during a clothes sale at a village memorial hall.

The 22-year-old, who is due to be formally identified this afternoon, was found unconscious in a van outside Martley Memorial Hall, west of Worcester, at about 4.45pm yesterday.

Paramedics took her to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5.22pm. A spokesman for Worcester Police said the woman had been working at the Memorial Hall selling clothes with colleagues from a company in the Warwickshire area.

"We understand that she hadn't been feeling well all day," he said.

"She went out to the van outside and that's where a colleague found her. We are not looking for anyone in connection with her death."

Rumours were flying around the village this morning as news of the sudden death spread.

"There are lots of conflicting stories," staff at Central Stores said.

Darren Yong, manager of The Crown, said locals were confused. "A lot of people thought it had happened at the polling station," he said.

A post mortem was due to take place at 9.30am this morning.
