A WIDOW has demanded an apology from Worcester Crematorium after her husband's funeral was double-booked.

Grieving Sue Mills, of Brookthorpe Drive, Blackpole, said 63-year-old David Mills's cremation was due to take place at Worcester Crematorium in Astwood Road, on Wednesday, April 27.

However she claims they were only told the day before that an error meant another cremation had mistakenly been put down as a burial - and it had been booked for the same time.

It was put back by two hours, but not all the 200 friends and relatives attending the service could be contacted in time. Many had to wait in a pub until it started.

Fabricator and welder Mr Mills, who died of pneumonia last month, was a bike fanatic and the mistake also caused disruption to a entourage of about 25 biker friends who had planned to follow the funeral car.

"It's disgusting because they're messing about with people's emotions," said Mrs Mills. "You've only got one chance to do this and it's a very stressful time. So for that to happen as well it really knocked us for six."

Her daughter Tina Baxter, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, said: "We're really disgusted with the crematorium as they said they were going to write a letter of apology but we haven't heard anything."

Parks and cemeteries manager Ian Yates said "We were able to sort everything out. We're very sorry though, and we have apologised."
