WEEK two action in the Prudden Road Surfacing League saw Stratford B open up a two-point gap at the top of the Premier Division.

The reigning champions enjoyed another comfortable 4-0 victory while nearest challengers Chipping Campden were held to a draw by Henley.

Inkberrow chalked up their second win but they once again dropped a rubber in claiming victory.

Last year's runners-up Studley could only manage to field a single pair and lost 3-1.

Stratford B found the going easy as they disposed of Littleton in straight sets. Callum Bailey and Rob Slatter only dropped three games all evening as they overcame Chris Elliott and Sean With-eford 6-1, 6-1 and Ian Smith and Graham Lawrence 6-0, 6-1.

In the remaining rubbers, Stratford captain Tim Page and Simon West won both their matches 6-4, 6-3, over Smith and Lawrence and 6-2, 6-0 against Elliott and Witheford.

Last season's Division One champions Chipping Campden continue to occupy joint second spot but were held to a draw by a determined Henley side.

Captain Ken Dawson and Mark Evans began well beating Henley's first pair Julian Morris and Rob Summers 6-4, 6-2. They then endured an epic struggle before going down to second pair John Turner and Matt Ross 7-5, 3-6, 6-7.

Mark Kirkbride and Rolf Wilson had the opposite results, beating Turner and Ross 6-3, 7-6 but losing out to Morris and Summers 6-4, 6-7, 6-7.

Depleted

Inkberrow moved up to joint second place courtesy of another 3-1 win with a depleted Studley the victims this week.

Inkberrow's first pair of Alex Woodbridge and Chris Baker defeat Studley's only pair Gary Jackson and Clive Dalton 6-4, 6-1. The latter duo then managed to salvage a point by beating Mike Baker and Graeme Rankin 6-4, 6-3.

Newly promoted Claverdon jumped of the bottom after an emphatic 4-0 win over Strat-ford C who fielded a reshuffled team and paid the penalty.

Pieter Van Hengel and James Courier began well by defeating Felix Aldler and Tom Inns 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 and then got the better of Richard Monk and Gary Scruby 6-1, 6-3.

Claverdon's other winners Richard Butler and Paul Ham-mond accounted for Monk and Scruby 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Adler and Inns 6-1, 6-0.

Moreton continued their winning start in the third division with a 3-1 home victory over Shipston B.

Studley B also won for a second time when overcoming Henley B 4-0, while Bidford B hit back from an opening week reverse to get the better of Campden B 3-1.

THE opening round of pool matches for the Prudden Road Surfacing Junior Cup competition saw Alcester, Henley-in-Arden, Shipston-on-Stour and Inkberrow top their respective groups.

Alcester's pair Jack Bate and Tom Wadelin won all three of their pool A matches beating Bidford 6-2, Snitterfield 6-0 and Stratford 6-3.

Snitterfield's Tom Griffiths and Jonathan Gill recovered well to defeat Bidford 6-4 and Stratford 6-2. In the final fixture, George Naylor and Jack Wain beat Stratford duo Leo Hodges and Jack Houlton 6-0.

Studley pair Jack Allum and David Pilkington bounced back to beat Claverdon 6-2, but then lost 6-4 to Tanworth for whom Andrew Turnbull and Lawrence Tibbs then lost out 6-2 to Claverdon's Matthew Williams and Kieran Kavi.

Pool C saw Shipston A take maximum points as Andy Moss and Nick Taylor pipped the B team 7-6 on a tie-break before disposing of Chipping Campden 6-2.

Thomas Killeen and Sam Buckingham gave Shipston B a 6-2 victory over Campden's Toby Robinson and George Richards.

Moreton-in-the-Marsh failed to field a team and the other three sides were awarded 6-0 walkovers.

Finally, with only three teams in pool D playing extra games, Inkberrow's Chris Smith and Ricky Allen proved too strong for their opposition beating Ombersley and Pershore by the same 9-1 scoreline.

The other fixture saw Marcus Taylor and Rory Martin-Smith give Ombersley a 9-2 result over Pershore's Josh Carr and Matthew Baston.
