THE country could be in for a shock General Election result today - if a mock election at a Vale of Evesham School is as accurate as it has been for the past two elections.

Buns iced in the colours of the three main parties - blue, red and yellow - went on stage at the school last Thursday. Blue and yellow were neck and neck all the way until a late surge in yellow bun sales gave yellow a narrow victory. Yellow finished with 56, blue 51 and red just 23.

Bun Fight organiser Jane Sullivan said: "We've held Bun Fights at school in the last two elections and in both red have outsold all others, accurately predicting the outcomes of the General Elections. Could the country be set for a swing to the Lib Dems in 2005?"

The Bun Fight was the culmination of work done in the school on the election. Children had to think what they would do if they were Prime Minister. Work they produced was on display during the Bun Fight.

Bun sales raised over £20 for PTA funds. The three main party candidates for Mid Worcestershire also attended the event.

l CANDIDATES standing for the seat in Mid Worcestershire are Peter Luff - Conservative, Matthew Gregson - Labour, Margaret Rowley - Liberal Democrat and Anthony Eaves - UK Independence Party. Those vying for the West Worcestershire seat are Tom Wells - Liberal Democrat, Sir Michael Spicer - Conservative, Qamar Bhatti - Labour, Caroline Bovey, UK Independence Party and Malcolm Victory for the Green Party. Voters are also being asked to elect new county councillors.
