THE importance of Rhydd Covert to children from throughout the UK has seen a Birmingham Cub group pledge more than £200 to our appeal.
Youngsters from the 129th Birmingham Cub Pack took part in a gruelling activity programme to raise £160.
Cash raised by singing carols over the Christmas period brought the figure to £220.
Rhydd Covert, which needs a Scout centre during the winter months for accommodation, training and catering, was a vital asset to the Kings Norton based group, said instructor Joan Urwin.
She said: "When they heard about the fire the boys were very upset and the parents and boys talked about it and decided they wanted to help.
"We really do value Rhydd Covert and I think it shows because the boys have made such an effort. We have found it is such a lovely site and it is very safe."
The youngsters took part in a six-part assault-style course with challenges.
