A WORLD Cup captain is hoping to be part of success at Kidderminster Victoria Cricket Club this season.

Kidderminster, preparing for their 135th year at Chester Road, begin their Birmingham and District League Division One campaign at home to Cannock on Saturday.

They also travel to Premier Division Old Hill 24 hours later in the National Knockout first round.

Divan Van Wyk, aged 20 and former South African Under 19s World Cup captain, is the club's overseas player.

Experience

A left-handed batsman, Van Wyk also bowls right-handed off-spin.

He will be joined by 20-year-old Chris Powell, who has Gloucestershire Second XI experience, and fast bowler Warren Irvine.

All-rounder Andy Morley has also signed from Moseley.

Kidderminster's Crusader Worcestershire League side starts its Division Two campaign at Netherton.

Among their new personnel is Australian batsman Kyle McAlister from North Melbourne.

Elsewhere in the Birmingham League, Bromsgrove open their Division One programme at Harborne, while Old Elizabethans host Fordhouses in Division Two.

Pershore, last year's Crusader Worcestershire League champions, make their Division Three bow at Penkridge.
