STOURPORT Boat Club are hoping for a repeat of last year's bumper turnout when they host the 2005 Pub & Club/ Work's Fours' regatta in June.

Last year 50 crews competed for the coveted trophy and the club is hoping to generate similar interest on Saturday June 18 this year.

Crews of four are trained in the preceding weeks to compete on the day in either the Pub & Club, Work's or Ladies divisions.

Each crew is guaranteed at least two races on the day and the whole event culminates in the presentation of trophies and an evening disco.

Club Secretary Andy Hough said the event is an enjoyable taster for beginners looking to take up rowing.

"Work's fours' day is exciting for competitors and spectators and allows the club to invite the local community to try their hand at rowing," he said.

Bewdley Rowing Club are also holding their pubs and clubs regatta next month.

Spokesman Peter Simpson is hoping the event on June 5 is well supported.

"It should be an enjoyable day for all. It is open to rowers and non-rowers over 16," he said.

"We need a decent turnout because it helps to safeguard the club's future."
