A KIDDERMINSTER man banned from his parents' home burgled it twice and head-butted his mother, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Steven Jones broke into the property, at The Lea, Kidderminster, while his parents were on holiday but was found inside by his mother's aunt and arrested by police.

Six months later, he raided the house again and stole his father's bank card which was used to obtain a £330 model car.

When he went to his home again to collect furniture for his flat, an argument erupted. Jones head-butted his mother in the face and also hit his father, said Michael Aspinall, prosecuting.

Jones, who suffered from mental health problems caused by heavy cannabis use, pleaded guilty to 16 offences, including burglary, theft, assault, deception and abstracting electricity.

Recorder Barbara Carter told the 22-year-old, from Avon Road, Kidderminster, it was critical he keep taking medication which had helped him.

She freed him from custody - where he had been on remand for two months - and imposed an 18-month community rehabilitation order.

Jones also burgled an unoccupied house in Francis Road, Stourport, during the crime spree between September, 2003 and January last year, said Mr Aspinall. He lived there for a time, stole lead and connected up the electricity supply for power.

Michael Conry, defending, said Jones had become disturbed after being asked to leave home over theft accusations.

The problem got worse when his parents moved to Australia and Jones went through a drug-induced "psychotic episode".

Mr Conry said his parents were returning to England and renewing their relationship with him. He had kicked drugs, making it unlikely he would reoffend.
