TWO Pershore High School pupils spent four days in Italy after one won a music competition.

Stephen Baldwin, a saxophone player from Pershore High was announced the winner in the competition which is part of the Comenius project funded by the European Union.

Stephen Baldwin from Peopleton beat off competition from classmates with his winning song - Caught In The Middle.

The Comenius project brings together pupils from seven schools across Europe joining together to share ideas.

Stephen aged 16 was accompanied by his friend, Sarah Perks, aged 17 who plays the piano. Teachers at the school picked Sarah for her musical talent. Stephen said: "The trip, last week, went really well. I performed my song on Friday. We went to Rome on Saturday which was amazing. It was a most worthwhile trip and very enjoyable, especially as it was my first time in a plane."

Both pupils carried out a presentation about their musical work to Italian students in Trivento, Italy.

Stephen and Sarah left for the event last Thursday and returned on Monday.
