PAUL McRay, of Kidderminster, who only started catfishing last year, was awarded the Cat Angler of the Year at the catfish conservation group dinner, for bagging several 30s and a few 20s in his first year.

All the fish were caught at Shatterford's Erics Pool. No other catfish angler has ever bagged as many 30s in one year.

On the Stella, 23 trout to 4lb were caught on a buzzer.

A green nymph was used for a catch of two trout to 2.5lb on the Wyre Dell, while 20 trout to 3lb fell to an orange witch.

On the coarse lakes, three brothers from Dudley caught five carp to 17lb with dog biscuits, on the Erics, where a 32lb catfish was caught with meat, and one angler landed catfish of 38lb and 26lb on trout.

A catfish weighing 36lb, which was caught with a boilie, gave such a fight that the angler's rod snapped in half.

On the Gainsborough, an angler caught a 44lb catfish and a 14lb carp on trout and the new M3 boilie, another Wolverhampton man netting a 17lb grass carp and two carp to 15lb on boilies.

The Stuarts is fishing well with carp to 14lb and bream to 7lb being caught on maggots and worms.
