TOM Bennett has hinted that his football future lies away from Aggborough after fighting a losing battle to keep Kidderminster up.

The disappointment of suffering the first relegation of his career was made worse by former club Boston hammering the final nail in Harriers' coffin.

And the Scottish midfielder admits the time might now be right to return North of the Border with his wife and young family.

"To be honest with you I don't think there is a possibility that I will still be here next season," revealed the former Wolves, Stockport and Walsall man.

"I've enjoyed my time here because they're a good set of lads and I don't regret coming here.

"I would rather have been playing than sitting on my backside picking up my money at Boston and my only regret is that I couldn't help to keep Kidderminster up.

"I've had a good time here but I think the gaffer wants to go a certain way next season and the wage bill is going to be slashed."

The 35-year-old believes Saturday's Boston debacle was "one game too far" for him and his Harriers team-mates.

After deserving to win the games against Bury and Yeovil only to end up with draws, the dressing room had lost its fight, he admitted.

"Even if you aren't the most gifted in terms of ability you have got to have enthusiasm but we didn't even show that on Saturday. It hurt everybody in the dressing room, some more than others."

Bennett, who has made almost 400 league appearances during a 17-year career, is now planning to gradually wind down his playing career to take up a coaching role.

"I always said when I came down here that when my career was coming to an end I'd return to Scotland," he said.

"I still think I can play for a year or two but I want to get a coaching role with a bit less playing involved.

"I've still got plenty to offer football, but if this is to be my last season, it's a horrible to end it with relegation."
