IT'S a double celebration in more ways than one for a Worcester football team - not only has it won its league cup and come second in the table for the second year running, it has raised £2,500 for charity.

Last week, Tolladine Sport won the Worcester League's Bayliss Cup 3-0 against top of the league Perrywood as well as raising the cash for sufferers of motor neurone disease.

"They are a good bunch of local lads playing

local football. They do Worcester proud," said team manager Dave Starkey, whose father Derek died of motor neurone disease in 1999.

The squad of 18, all aged between 19-33, has held band nights to raise cash for MND. Previous jamborees - held at the club's adopted pub, the New Chequers Inn - on Astwood Road have included local rock favourites, Medford.

And next season the lead vocalist of the band, Richard Webb, will take over the running of Tolladine Sports as they try to go one better and win the league to complement their cup success.

Mr Starkey will continue to work on the fundraising side of the club, and plans to hold more band nights this summer.

"We never understood what MND was, but the money we raise will hopefully go towards raising awareness of the condition," he added.

Tolladine Sports was formed in 1985 and plays at 'Brickfields Stadium' on King George's Playing Field on Brickfields Road.
