A WARNING has been issued after a woman claimed to have had her drink spiked in a Worcester night-spot.

The woman was enjoying a Saturday night out with friends when she collapsed in the toilets of a nightclub.

The 22-year-old - who wanted to remain anonymous following her ordeal - was unable to move. Later, she described how she remembered every detail of her experience, and how she was unable to respond to people around her.

Her 18-year-old friend described what happened.

"It was absolutely horrible," she said. "I felt so helpless and just didn't know what to do.

"You go out to have a good time and just have to watch your back."

The victim's mother said: 'I'm a nurse and I knew what it was, she wasn't drunk. I stayed up all night looking after her to make sure she didn't have a fit."

The Worcester News spoke to city centre bars and clubs to see whether drink spiking was on the increase.

Darren Pinches, owner of Bushwackers said: "I don't think it's a big thing in Worcester at the moment."

He said his staff followed a strict code of practice if someone appeared to be in trouble. "We will ask them who their friends are, not allow let them leave on their own," he said.

Dean Wise, assistant manager of The Courtyard, said: "I have heard that it has been happening recently around the city but we've not experienced any problems with it."

South Worcestershire Police licensing officer Sgt Peter Hughes said: "There have only ever been a handful of reported spikings in the area - and not many of them have been substantiated."
