ARCHDALES '73 were confirmed as Midland Combination Division Two champions last night.

Nearest rivals University of Birmingham could only draw 0-0 with West Hagley and cannot catch Dales now.

Boss Martin Stephens was "over the moon" in his second year in charge after finishing sixth last season.

Ironically, Dales had been handed a football lesson by University of Birmingham in a 3-0 weekend defeat.

Uni started brightly, knowing they had to reduce a nine-point and 21-goal deficit between themselves and the Dales.

They took the lead when Michael Sexton volleyed home after a defensive mix-up.

Darren Tafft struck the crossbar with a fine free-kick and Jason Beck had a header superbly saved by the 'keeper but that was as good as it got for the Dales.

Uni controlled the play for long periods, culminating in a delightful second goal for Sexton who latched on to John Holder's cross to volley home from 20 yards.

Number three came within minutes for Sexton who topped off a stunning solo display with a tap-in hat-trick goal.
