TRANSPORT in the Malvern Hills is again set to come under the spotlight as proposals for improvements to services are unveiled.

Malvern Hills District Council's review of local transport stemmed from concerns raised about delayed and cancelled rail services at a meeting organised by sister paper, the Malvern Gazette, last year.

The review, carried out by the authority's overview and scrutiny committee, began in September, with its aims being to identify areas for improvement and improve information for people about local transport services.

A review of the district's bus services was also carried out earlier this year following similar concerns.

Now council members will be updated on the findings at a meeting of the authority's executive committee at 5pm on Tuesday, April 26.

Among the suggestions the committee has put forward, it is recommending the council works with Worcestershire County Council to ensure bus and rail services are improved.

It is also recommending the council encourages operators to provide real-time information at Great Malvern and Malvern Link train stations and it works with the Malvern Hills Young People's Council to investigate a travel concession for youngsters.

Plans for the council to liaise with the relevant authorities, to ensure reliable and frequent transport provision for the new surgeries and hospital in Malvern, are also being suggested.

The recommendations are among 20 being put to the council for consideration at Tuesday's meeting.
