WHEN a side is reduced to 10 men with just 31 minutes of the game played a 6-0 scoreline is far from unusual.

But it is much more common for the side which is reduced in strength to be on the wrong end of the hammering rather then inflicting it, as Hereford United did in yesterday's Nationwide Conference rout at Farnborough.

On-loan Leroy Williams, who had already shown a touch of class with an excellent finish to put the Bulls ahead in the 18th minute, saw the red mist after a challenge from home skipper Adam Theo and a head-butt produced the only outcome.

Hereford, however, after surviving a couple of dodgy moments at the end of the first period thanks to the agility of goalkeeper Craig Mawson, romped away in the second-half.

In doing so, they took the home side's 'goals against' tally to 13 -- following their 7-1 defeat at Barnet last Saturday -- in the last week.

Daryl Taylor, another loan signing from Walsall, was the architect of the win with the sort of wing play which Hereford have been missing since the return of Joe Anyinsah to Bristol City.

With Danny Williams and Danny Carey-Bertram the victims of heavy challenges in the first 10 minutes, the match had a scrappy opening.

Danny Williams, however, breathed some life into proceedings with a fine through ball, enabling his namesake, Leroy, to slip the ball past goalkeeper Andy Petterson with a sublime finish.

Thirteen minutes later the 18-year-old disappeared from the action after showing the negative side to his character.

Two minutes after the break, however, Hereford were firmly in control. Carey-Bertram was brought down by Jimmy Turner and got up to fire the spot-kick beyond Petterson.

Six minutes later, Taylor's cross was clipped in by Jamie Pitman to put the result beyond doubt.

In the 80th minute, Stanley's shot was so badly sliced that the ball ended up with Taylor out on the right and he slipped the ball back to Simon Travis who crossed for the unmarked substitute Adam Stansfield to head in the fourth.

Four minutes from time Rob Purdie's fierce shot screamed past Petterson and Stansfield wrapped things up in injury time.

Hereford: Mawson 8, Travis 7, Mkandawire 7, Tretton 7, Robinson 7, H Taylor 9, Pitman 8, Stanley 7, D Williams 7 (Purdie, 28 min, 8), Carey-Bertram 8 (Stansfield 77 min), L Williams 6. Subs (not used): Scott, Smith, Hyde.
