A THREE-car accident halted the progress of holidaymakers hoping to make an early getaway yesterday.

The incident took place on the M5 northbound between Junctions 6 and 5 at 2pm.

The vehicles were cleared within an hour, but traffic remained slow for some time afterwards.

The accident also had a direct impact on people travelling through Droitwich.

Drivers tried to avoid the queues by going through the town, only to find themselves blocked again.

Councillor Andrew Christian-Brookes, who was travelling to Droitwich from Worcester at the time, described the tailbacks as "horrendous".
