WISHES came true for neighbours in Salford Priors thanks to a new ITV programme due to go out in May.

The programme entitled Solutions Street gets residents working together to help them achieve their goals.

Sixty-three-year old Cilla Hunt, from Ridsdale Close, was one of the many who took part. The grandmother learned to swim aided by Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew.

Others learned to drive, had a makeover, learned computer skills and had their rooms redecorated in exchange for skills.

Mrs Hunt said: "I wanted to learn to swim properly to be able to join my grandchildren in the deep end of the swimming pool now they are growing up. I didn't want to be left paddling close to the shore either when we go on holiday so I was thrilled to learn. In exchange we did some gardening on a spare piece of land in the close helped by an expert. It was great."

She said a couple of teenage neighbours also taught computer skills to an elderly woman in exchange for getting their mother a make-over.

Owner of Broome Swimming Pool, Sally Walters said: "The crew came to me to provide the swimming pool for Cilla and I was thrilled. It was a really good experience and a worthwhile programme."

Production Manager for Hotbed Media, Richard Banks said: "It is a new show going out in May for ITV1.

"We visited Ridsdale Close, met the neighbours and found out what they would like to do to improve their lives.

"With a team of experts and skill sharing many things were accomplished. The programme aims to get communities to work together."

He said the neighbours of Ridsdale Close will be featured in four episodes at the beginning of May.
