Evesham U-13 22pts, Shipston 15

SUNDAY'S hosts made their customary lacklustre start and, together with poor first time tackling, meant they were immediately on the back foot.

This soon led to two early breakaway tries by the visitors and it seemed they were going to run away with the spoils.

Often on the retreat there were some positive aspects of Evesham's play though with good runs from deep by Matt Hyde, George Dickinson and Mike Diston.

New boy Josh Taylor came on to bolster the centre and soon made an impact as Evesham finally woke up.

The forwards suddenly began to get involved in the game with inspiration coming from a vocal and committed Tom Bailey at No 8 and they ended the first half the stronger with Taylor's try making it 10-5 at the midway point.

A reshuffled Evesham were soon into their stride after the break with Josh Greatrix, Mike Gander, Mike Ibbotson and Ross Hayward responding to Bailey's demands and they went on to dominate all the set plays.

Forward supremacy created the platform and the space for Taylor to score his second try following another well worked move involving Diston and Hopkins.

The relentless pressure brought further reward when player of the match Bailey picked up from the back of a scrum inside Shipston's 22 and scored in the corner.

Evesham's dominance prevailed again and Taylor ran in his third and his side's fourth try of the game converted by Sam Hopkins.

At 22 -10 ahead, the home side made the mistake of easing off only to be caught off guard by a third try from the visitors, but it proved too little too late and Shipston were handed a first defeat of the season.
