THE Rose Theatre's resident group, The Nonentities, will have a spring in their step over the Easter period as they prepare to present John Godber's and his wife, Jane Thornton's lively show, Shakers.

The play focuses on four cocktail waitresses whose lives are stuck in a rut - but maybe not as much as the clientele at Shakers, where they work.

Nonentities' artistic director, Liz Cole, described the show as "light and fun" and a "strong choice" and advised theatregoers to book in advance to ensure a seat.

"Godber vies with Ayckbourn as the most performed British playwright after Shakespeare," she went on.

"The play is light and fun with a seam of pain underneath but the music and routines that punctuate the action prevent things getting too heavy.

"I think audiences will welcome another chance to see it."

Director, Martin Drury, added he hoped it would attract a younger audience as the themes concerned anyone taking what might be perceived as a "stop-gap" job.

There is also a driving score of upbeat music by the likes of Sugababes, Girls Aloud and Jamelia, he added.

More information and tickets for the show, which is being performed on the main stage of the Broadwaters venue from Monday, April 4, until Saturday, April 9, can be obtained by calling the Rose Theatre box office on 01562 743745.
