A choir from east York-shire performs in Malvern for the first time Saturday, April 2.

The Beverley Chamber Choir will perform Mozart's Mass in C as well as works by Mendelssohn, Palestrina and Tavener at Great Malvern Priory.

Founded in 1998, the 40-strong choir performs regular concerts in its historic hometown and visits venues around the country.

Choir director Alan Binnington said: "We try to organise visits away from east Yorkshire at least every couple of years but this will be the first time we've come to Malvern.

"We're delighted to be coming and really looking forward to performing in the Priory."

He said his brother, Stephen, an accomplished organist, was looking forward to trying out the newly refurbished Priory organ.

"It will be absolutely great, I'm hoping to have a little go on it myself," he said.

"We follow developments in organ refurbishment across the country, so it'll be great to be among the early performers on this one."

He said the concert would also be a rare opportunity for him to perform alongside his brother.

"Stephen lives and works in Dorset, so I don't get to see him often, performing the concert with him will be extra special."

The choir will also sing at Worcester Cathedral during services on Friday, April 1.

A CD of 16th and 17th Century music will be available after the concert, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 on the door.
