WARNING signs or other safety measures will not be put up at an accident blackspot on the Worcester to Hereford road, unless official requests are made.

The junction to Evesbatch, on the A4103, has been the site of numerous collisions in recent years.

Forty-one-year-old Zdzislaw Jurek, from Poland, was killed at the junction in October 2002, after his Nissan was in collision with a Volkswagen Golf.

In the latest incident, at 11.15am on Friday, a white fire tender was in collision with a DAF articulated lorry. No- one was injured.

The carriageway was closed for nearly two hours while debris was removed.

Figures from Herefordshire Council show three injury accidents at the site in the past five years.

Collisions that do not cause injury are not recorded, nor was the suicide of 29-year-old Samantha Pitt, a pedestrian who died at the spot in July 2003, after being hit by a van.

Herefordshire Council's lead engineer for traffic, Andrew Lee-Jones, said a request for safety measures at the junction had to come through the parish council.

He said the junction was on a list of the county's accident cluster sites, but was not considered a priority.

"In terms of sites around the rest of the county, this one is fairly low down the ranking," he said.

Martin Field, clerk of Bishop's Frome Parish Council, said he had not received any complaints about the junction.

Herefordshire councillor Robert Manning said: "Nobody has written to me or said anything but I agree it could be dangerous if you are coming from Malvern, it's quite concealed.

"If you don't know the road well, it would jump out at you."

He said signs warning of the junction were a good idea and anyone concerned should contact himself or the parish council.
