POWICK clinched the Worcester League division one title on Saturday with a fine display of passing football.

FERNHILL HEATH SPURS 1, POWICK 6

The title was won without Powick losing a fixture and with three league games remaining.

The game started with Powick dictating the pace with a solid back four performance. Humphries at left back enjoying his new role, Howes and Hodges using their strength and experience with Dakin filling a void at right back, again proving to be a tremendous utility player for the team. This solid display created a basis to launch the attacking wide players of Henderson and Matt Cole.

The first goal came when Powick were camped outside Spurs' goal mouth and created space for attacking midfielder Jamie Abba to supply a deep cross to Stu Harvey, who juggled the ball over the keeper and tapped-in for 1-0.

Goal two came moments later as Spurs' heads were down, Lee Henderson played a excellent through ball to Mike Cole, who displayed some excellent touches to find space and shoot into the bottom corner with a brilliant finish.

Matt Cole went close again when he slipped his opposite number with some fine individual skill and his shot just went wide.

Fernhill Heath did grab a lifeline when a free-kick was not dealt with due to some confusion and the ball found a lone striker within the 18-yard box who finished on the volley giving keeper Ian Hill no chance.

Half-time and Powick were in a confident mood as Fernhill Heath were beginning to tire in the heat.

Powick were right to feel confident as, in the second half, they really pulled away. Starting with Mike Cole's second goal, which was a real cracker from distance after being played-in by Abba. Cole raced onto the ball and hit a measured lob over the advancing keeper to make the scoreline 1-3.

Peter Brannelly, who had an excellent game in the heart of midfield, was unlucky not to notch his first goal of the season when he shot wide from close range on two occasions. Stu Harvey kept up his usual high standards and grabbed his brace to increase his total to 38 for the season to make it 1-4.

Powick captain Lee Henderson found himself in the centre circle and spread the ball to the advanced Abba to get himself a deserved goal for a tireless performance, when he beat the keeper from a tight angle.

Newman, Pearson and Drinkwater were all introduced to the game and soon Drinkwater grabbed himself a goal from eight yards when Powick broke again in numbers, all looking to get on the score sheet.

Man-of-the-match was Jason Howes.

Powick are next in action at home to Kempsey on Saturday, April 2.
