THE district council must think we are all stupid (again). The current recycling box scheme is the most progressive policy I can ever remember in this district and everyone is now "trained up". (Kerbside recycling scheme to be axed, Shuttle/Times & News, March 17)

How do a few councillors now have the right to undo all that good work at our expense just because they never understood ?

On the Continent, householders save council time and money by separating material into THREE boxes, so how is it better in effect or cost to revert to one?

We deserve to know all the hidden costs of reducing the scheme, as is apparently planned. This includes:

1 Cost/gross wastage of disposing of 50,000+ black and green boxes purchased by us only two years ago ?

2 Cost of council time separating all recycled materials instead of five minutes per householder given free at present ?

3 Cost of replacing the new wagons - it is not credible that their "lifetime" is only four years.

4 Cost of buying 25-30,000 new wheelie bins, which is completely unnecessary.

5 Cost of further new dust carts for doubling wheelie bin numbers?

6 When the new/old policy fails and Government insists we raise our recycling to 2004 levels, who pays to do it?

After policies resulting in the demolition of two major car parks causing parking chaos, the resultant closure of many Kidderminster town centre stores, and their unwelcoming comments about possible cinemas in recent years, can we please be spared the cost of any more personal hobby-horses from these people?
