AFTER two games and two wins, Andy Wells was becoming something of a talisman for Stourport Swifts.

But that run came to an end on Saturday when the battling midfielder could do nothing to deny struggling visitors Swindon Supermarine all three points following their 2-0 win at Walshes Meadow.

Wells produced another fine display in the heart of the Stourport side but a lack of creativity elsewhere ultimately cost Swifts their five-match unbeaten run.

Goals at the end of each half sealed victory for a Swindon side trying to break away from the relegation zone and a lacklustre Swifts could have few complaints.

Top two Evesham and Mangotsfield are next in line for Dave Titterton's side over a daunting Easter weekend and the manager will want to see more from his players.

Mark Crisp had a 36th minute effort saved by Swindon keeper Tom King but it needed Tony Joyce's 25-yard lob on the stroke of half-time to finally inject some life into the home side and injury time efforts from Alex Volosonovs and Crisp went close to repairing the damage.

The Wiltshire side could have doubled their lead early in the second period when Steve Davies steered a header onto the crossbar.

Titterton made a triple substitution on the hour and while livewire Andy Checketts could find little room to manoeuvre on the right, fellow replacement John Shirley linked with Wells to dominate midfield.

But it was Supermarine who wrapped up the points two minutes from time when striker Lance Lewis, on loan from Swindon Town, skipped through the Swifts defence to slot home.

Swifts: O'Malley 5, M Jones 6, Green 7, A Jones 7, Webb 7, WELLS 8, Lloyd 6 (Checketts 60, 5), Volosonovs 6 (Shirley 60, 7), Crisp 6 (Willetts 60, 6), Burgess 6, Mason 6. Subs (not used): Atkinson, Newall.
