An era will end at the Brewers' Arms next week, when George and Vanessa give up their tenancy after more than five years.

When they arrived in December 1999, it was as Mr Hilliard and Miss Gossage, but now, as Mr and Mrs Hilliard, they are beginning 12 months of freelance travelling round Europe in a mobile home - described by George as their 'senior gap year'!

As yet, no successors have been identified, but Pyramid Pub Management, which owns the Brewers', is seeking replacement landlords. It is understood that the owners wish to let the pub on a repairing lease rather than a tenancy and that this may have proved a deterrent to some possible takers.

It seems likely that a temporary manager will have to be installed until permanent occupants are found, but it is possible that the pub may close for a short time. We are assured however is that there is no question of permanent closure!

There will be two services at St James's Church on Sunday, Easter Day. The Reverend Canon Bill Richards will conduct a family service with holy communion at 10.30am - those who wish to do so will be able to leave after the first part of the service. The evening communion service at 6.30pm will be conducted by the Reverend Dr Derek Sharples.

Don't forget the car boot sale at the playing fields on Bank Holiday Monday from 10am- 2pm.
