PEOPLE are needed to help monitor police performance in Worcestershire.

Volunteers are wanted to join new-look community policing boards representing North and South Worcestershire.

Besides monitoring police performance and community relations in their divisions, the boards will be consulted in the development of the police budget and priorities.

In all, five boards will be set up in West Mercia, with two representing the Worcestershire area and the others representing Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Each board will include members of consultative groups, including chambers of commerce and Neighbourhood Watch.

"This is a real opportunity for individuals to help us make policing better in their area," said Kate Pready-James, chairman of the police authority's inclusivity and community engagement panel.
