STRIKERS Paul Szewczyk and Arthur Appleton have been given the green light by Bromsgrove Rovers boss Jimmy Mullen to terrorise the Southern League Division One West's best defences.

The manager was licking his lips after he watched the duo bag braces in Saturday's 6-3 demolition of Taunton.

Now Mullen has has urged the pair to score the goals which lead Rovers to automatic promotion.

He said: "I think Paul and Arthur are the best strike partnership in the division.

"I wish I had them together earlier in the season.

"When we had Arthur here before I thought they'd be great together, but I never got a chance to use them."

The manager though is aiming to increase the pressure on his first choice partnership by signing much travelled hitman Mark Shepherd.

The Rovers boss is set to speak with the former Redditch United striker this week after putting in a seven-day approach to Solihull Borough.

Shepherd, who scored seven goals for Borough, will be brought into replace Carl Tranter, who returned to Tamworth after his loan period came to an end.

Mullen is also hoping to solve the problem on the right wing by signing midfielder Sean Williams from Midland Alliance side Oldbury United.

The manager is set to hold talks with the winger this week.

Mark Benbow, Andy Turner and Jon Daniels have been unsuccessfully tried on the right wing.

Mullen though has high hopes for Williams - if he signs for Rovers this week.

He said: "I like the look of Sean, he's got ability and I think he could do a good job for us."

Rovers aim to continue their goal laden form in two important fixtures over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday Rovers take on Sutton Coldfield Town at the Victoria Ground (12.30pm kick off).

Phil Male and Scott Hadland are then set to face their old team, when Rovers go to Bedworth United on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm kick off).

Mullen has called on the team to repeat Saturday's scoring feats against Taunton, but cut out the sloppy mistakes which saw them concede three late goals.

He said: "I've wanted more goals and hopefully we'll get them.

"But we need to cut out the mistakes at the back.

"There are eight games left and we can still finish automatically."

Rovers chairman Tom Herbert was delighted with the side's performance against Taunton.

He said: "It was a nine goal thriller to be savoured by everyone who was at the ground.

"It was a pity we couldn't keep a clean sheet, but I was delighted with the way we attacked in the second half."
