TWO of the biggest names in the world of folk music are lined up to perform at Stourport's new Riverside Folk and Acoustic Club.
Singer/songwriter and guitarist, Steve Tilston, whose songs have been recorded by Fairport Convention, is performing tomorrow night, while Martin Carthy is playing on Friday, March 4.
Born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands, Mr Tilston made his recording debut in the early seventies with the album An Acoustic Confusion while Mr Carthy has been awarded an MBE for services to British Folk Music.
Mr Carthy has also been a member of Steeleye Span, The Albion Band and The Watersons.
Gary Davis, manager of Stourport Boat Club, where the acoustic club meets, said it was quite a coup to have such big names playing.
He said that almost 100 people had attended the club's launch on Friday, February 4, which featured music from Stourport band Sack The Juggler.
"We've already sold a fair few tickets but there are a fair few more to sell," he added.
The club holds open mic sessions on alternate Thursdays, and live concerts every other Friday. Three open mic nights have been held so far to raise cash for booking live acts, which include Reg Meuross on April 1, Bob Fox on May 27, Jez Law and the Bad Pennies on May 13, and The Jamesons during the week of St Patrick's Day.
More information and tickets for all the concerts can be obtained by calling Mr Davis on 01299 826539 or by e-mailing gary@stourport.net
