I HAVE been a great supporter of speed cameras but I am now beginning to suspect that they are cash-generated.

I read in the Evening News "Twenty new traps to catch county motorists". On Central News at Six, it was revealed West Mercia are top of the league for speeding fines in excess of £36m.

Then, on Trevor McDonald Tonight it showed a busy (dual carriageway) A456 where one child has been recently killed. Improvements would cost £30,000.

The authorities say it is not a priority. We saw the same sort of thing in other parts of the country where minor road improvements would save lives. But they are still not a priority.

When you consider the amount of taxes paid by the motorist - and the small sum spent on the roads -- it is criminal.
