WORCESTER coach John Brain hailed his side's performance in the 50-3 demolition of Moseley as 'the best of the season'.

The Sixways chief was delighted with the display in the fourth round RFU Senior Cup tie at Bournbrook and admitted he now has a few selection headaches after giving a number of first-team fringe players a run out.

Prop George Davis marked his full debut for the club with two tries while new fly-half Steven Vile played a longer than expected 70 minutes because of another injury to skipper for the day Craig Chalmers.

And for Brain, the performance may well have earned a number of forwards a starting place in the National One clash with Bracknell on Sunday.

"The secret is, you play with people who are hungry," he said. "There are a lot of forwards at the club who think they should be playing every week.

"However, they have come out and responded to their frustrations in the best possible way by playing magnificently.

"It was a very complete display and that gives me a lot of selection headaches."

The only blot on the landscape for Brain was Chalmers' exit on 10 minutes after straining the same hamstring which forced him to miss three weeks already this season.

He was brought off as a precaution but is now struggling to make the Bracknell match.

"Craig hasn't pulled the hamstring," Brain added. "However, he has a twinge similar to the one he felt against Rotherham before he came off. He's come off as a precaution but that has presented an opportunity to Steven Vile who then did everything I expected of him."

Brain made six changes to the side who beat Otley last weekend.

In came Davis, Chris Hall, Neil Lyman, Dave Sims, Christian Evans and the returning Duncan Roke at centre. Rather than the changes having a disruptive effect, however, they worked a treat as Davis, Hall and Roke all bagged tries.

"The players, one to 15 and the replacements have done themselves a lot of good," said Brain.

"George Davis was a player I spotted on a tape playing for Bristol under 21s. He has a lot of potential and today has scored two tries.

"What was good though that the players felt comfortable with one another and for a coach that gives you a number of options.

"The key moment in the game was when we were 14-3 up, we had a good five minutes of defending to do on our line and we held out and showed a lot of character.

"I reminded the guys, before kick-off, about the last time we played a Midlands derby -- we lost against Coventry. So, I think that has to be the best performance of the season."
