BROMSGROVE Musical Club was tuning up for its annual concert at the Drill Hall.

SPA saltmaker Alfred Barnett was hauled before Droitwich Petty Sessions for neglecting to send his son William to school. It was the Holloway resident's third appearance in court because the case had been adjourned twice. The bench heard that Master Barnett was thoroughly "incorrigible" and decided he should attend an industrial school until he was 16. His father agreed to surrender him once arrangements were in place.

BROMSGROVE celebrations for the approaching coronation of King Edward VII were to be arranged in line with the Diamond Jubilee which rejoiced Queen Victoria's reign. Residents who attended a public meeting at the town hall supported plans to hold special services at district churches and to host entertainment for town children. A sports day was planned and the day would culminate with a bonfire and fireworks display. Residents also agreed the town would be decorated and flagged.

THE popularity of Blackwell Sanatorium continued, the governors' 36th annual report revealed. It said the facility boasted 80 beds and 1,283 people had received treatment during the past year.

VILLAGERS were busy organising a grand fete to raise cash to refurbish the tower at St Bartholomew's Church, in Tardebigge. Residents hoped the event at Hewell Park on Whit Monday would pull in the crowds.

FORMER Bromsgrove workhouse master John Barrows was brought before Warwick Police Court charged with embezzling funds from the Guardians of Warwick Union. The prisoner, who looked haggard, had been hunted from town to town and being destitute, he eventually surrendered to police. The case was adjourned.
