PROMISING defender Dan Jones has pledged his immediate future to Worcester City by signing a contract extension.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at St George's Lane until the end of next season.

Jones, who captained English Universities to a 4-0 victory over the RAF in Middlesex yesterday, has made nine starts for City this season and despite limited first team opportunities has made a big impact with supporters.

Manager John Barton believes the ex-Coventry City academy youngster has a bright future and was keen to secure his signature.

"Dan has created an impression since he first arrived in the team and many people would have liked to have seen him play more than he has done, there's no doubt about that," he said.

"But they have to leave how we handle his progress and development to our better judgement -- leave the whys and the wherefores to us.

"He has certainly got some potential and ability and will be a benefit to the club. We have liked what we have seen, he's a young lad still learning but we feel he's got a big part to play at the club and a bright future.

"I think his better performances have been when we've played in a three-man defence and there are certain aspects of his game he needs to work on that we have discussed with him but he's been a very assured performer on the pitch."

Meanwhile, City winger Adam Wilde is set to play some part in England's National Game XI clash with Belgium in Ostend tonight.

The 24-year-old trained with no reaction to the hamstring strain that forced his late substitution in the 2-1 defeat at Stafford Rangers at the weekend.
