WORCESTER City boss John Barton is looking for his side to react in the right way to their sudden loss of form.

Two successive defeats, following a run of 11 games unbeaten, have ended City's hopes of a cup 'double' and seriously affected their chances of third place in the Dr Martens League Premier Division.

Barton hopes his side, who now have dropped to fourth spot, can recover some of the lost ground at home to Welling United tomorrow (3pm).

The City boss said: "We are looking for a response tomorrow.

"Perhaps we are being a little bit harsh after the excellent run we have had, but I was a little bit suspicious after last week's game at Weymouth that the performance wasn't totally down to tiredness and fatigue.

"Some of my suspicions were brought home last night and they have to pick it up."

City's long unbeaten run included a fine 1-0 win at Welling back in February courtesy of a late Marc Burrow goal.

Barton expects another tough game, saying: "From what we saw in the game down at Welling, we don't anticipate anything changing from that.

"The concern is how we come through the gates at 1.30pm tomorrow. It has to be better than that.

"It is up to us now to make sure that the season doesn't peter out."

Utility player Burrow is back in contention tomorrow after being cup-tied for last night's 2-1 home defeat against Evesham United in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final.

Winger Mike Wyatt may also be back in contention after a knee injury, while defender Andy Bradley also has a chance after shaking off a back problem.

Midfielder Carl Heeley, City's only ever-present player this season, is also suffering from a back injury but Barton expects him to be fit.

Barton added: "Hopefully by next week with another couple of players back we can strengthen it somewhat."

City's one outstanding league game at Crawley Town has been re-arranged for Thursday, May 3 (7.45).

Crawley will also be City's opponents in the Dr Martens Cup final over two legs -- proving City win Tuesday's home semi-final against Newport County.

City are offering free admission to the Fisher Athletic home match on April 21 to anyone who takes out one of the club's credit cards tomorrow. Applicants will also be entered in a draw to win tickets to a Manchester United home game.
