PAUL Szewczyk has won the Advertiser/Messenger player of the season award.
Szewczyk has picked up seven man of the match gongs and scored 20 goals since his arrival at the club in November.
Captain Steve Pope was a close second with six man of the match awards and ten goals.
Szewczyk was presented with his award by Advertiser/Messenger sports editor Steve Carley at the club's presentation evening in the Victoria Club, in Birmingham Road, last Saturday.
Szewczyk said: "Personally I have scored a few goals which was pleasing.
"I think we could have done better as a team and should have got in the top seven. I think the fans deserve it but we probably let them down.
"Hopefully we can get the promotion the club and fans deserve."
Previous winners of the Advertiser/Messenger shield are Grant Beckett (2001-02) and Steve Frost (2002-03).
