WORCESTER City midfielder Andy Ellis has conceded that he is unlikely to play again this season.

The former Woking player, who broke his leg in Monday's 4-2 defeat at Tamworth, could be in plaster for up to 10 weeks.

Ellis, now recovering at his home in Leamington Spa, said: "Usually at the earliest it will be a month to six weeks after the plaster comes off before you can even train again.

"When you break anything you don't want to rush back just in case it isn't quite right.

"It is possible if we are struggling for points and have players injured or suspended that I might have to play, but ideally I won't bother playing this season."

His recovery will be aided by the fact that his break was a clean one with no added complications. "All it means is they can put it straight in plaster and don't have to put any plates in.

"It's the first time I have really done anything other than tweaking my ankle ligaments."

Ellis hit out at both referee Stephen Bratt and Tamworth midfielder Michael Gray, whose tackle caused the injury.

Gray had earlier been involved in an incident with City defender Bradley Sandeman, and Ellis said: "It was so obvious something like that was going to happen.

"I actually said to the referee 'You can't let him carry on like that'."

Ellis had just begun to find his form with City after a lean start to the season, shortly after a move to take up a new job in the Midlands coincided with his wife giving birth to twins.

He said: "I had got my fitness back and had started to play well.

"It is disappointing but in a way I am just pleased to have played four or five good games for the fans, so they could see what I could do."

Ellis' injury is likely to give Carl Heeley the chance to return to the starting line-up in midfield, having been on the bench in recent matches.

City's reserves entertain Rushden and Diamonds in the Central Conference tonight (7.45).
