Studley Parish Council broke away from a tradition at its annual meeting on Tuesday by appointing a woman as its chairman for the ensuing year.
The new chairman, Mrs A S Midlane, is the only woman member on the council and is the first woman in this area to take over the premier office on a parish council.
Mr J E Chambers, one of the recently elected new members, was appointed as vice-chairman.
