ADRIAN Skeggs is backing Cameron Mather to carve out a regular place in the Worcester Rugby Club line-up after the Scottish international won his place back in the first team.

Mather started just his second game since October today against Henley Hawks after being axed from the side which beat Moseley 34-6 in the Tetley's Bitter Cup third round clash.

The 28-year-old, who joined the National One leaders from Edinburgh Reivers in October, has fought his way back into the Sixways side after some fine performances in Warriors matches and in training.

Skeggs said: "Cameron has done well because he has had the right attitude throughout. Even when he was dropped he worked very hard to get back into contention."

Mather started his first game since being axed on Saturday as Worcester saw off the challenge of Otley 31-19 and Skeggs believes Sixways' faithful will now begin to see the best of the flanker.

"Cameron started a bit gun-shy but he definitely improved as the game wore on at Otley. His last 15 minutes he was working quite hard when our fitness is vital to us. We got the fourth try just by turning ball over.

"He knows why he was dropped in the first place but he has come back well. The good thing about him is that he is a very honest player and he is his biggest critic."

Mather replaces Nick Brough-ton at flanker for the Henley game, the first time he has worn the number seven shirt for the Gold'n'Blues.

And Skeggs is hoping it will prove a lucky seven for the New Zealand born player.

"Cameron has started to show what he is capable of but he now needs to find that level of consistency. I think though, he has the ability to make a difference for us."
