WAYNE Hatswell is targeting more clean sheets for Kidderminster Harriers after a sterling debut in the goal-less draw at Swansea on Saturday.

The 28-year-old centre-half gave a rugged display as Harriers kept the opposition out for the first time in 13 games.

Hatswell signed last week for a four-figure fee from Chester after a fall-out with their manager, former Liverpool defender Mark Wright.

He is well known to new Harriers boss Jan Molby who immediately made him captain in Tuesday's 1-0 win at Northampton.

Hatswell admitted his communication at the back had improved with the Conference club after playing at the centre of the back three.

He said: "I wouldn't say I'm the best footballer in the world on the deck.

"But putting my head in there and making tackles is what I'm paid to do, so just as long as the opposition don't score I'm happy.

"The forwards are paid to score goals and if they do that it makes it a lot easier for us defenders.

"At Chester, I often played in the middle of a three and I didn't have to attack the ball so much. Instead, I started to organise the defence and have got more vocal over the last year or so.

"Being 28 now, I'm one of the older ones at Kidderminster at the moment and if they want to listen to me then great. Although I'm not the most experienced pro, I do know a little."

Hatswell went to Forest Green via Witney and Cinderford, before a £35,000 move into the Football League with Oxford.

He wants to make the most of his second chance in Division Three and showed that in a tough duel with target man Kevin Nugent.

Hatswell said: "Nugent's a handful and a half. But you generally find in this league there will be a big man and a smaller one playing off him."

He added: "It would have been nice if we could have come away with three points.

"Swansea were third in the league and we more than matched them. We've got to take heart from that and go on from there.

"I wouldn't have thought we were relegation material when I joined. If you can string two wins together in this league, it can take you back up to mid-table. You can turn the corner that quickly."
