JOE Jackson has been named as the new manager of Bromsgrove Rovers.

Jackson, who led Stourbridge to back-to-back Midland Alliance titles, was unveiled at the club's presentation evening last Saturday.

He becomes the seventh manager in four years at the Victoria Ground and the third in Tom Herbert's two and a half years as chairman, following in the footsteps of George Rooney and Gary Hackett and Jon Ford.

Mr Herbert, who handed charge to Steve Pope for the last six games after Rooney resigned, admitted he had made mistakes with his appointments in the past but insisted he had made the correct choice this time to deliver promotion.

He said: "I think he is the right man. After making one or two mishaps as chairman with managers, I think Joe is the man for us.

"We have missed out for two seasons on the trot. I will make sure that the third season we will get there.

"The club is going forward. It doesn't seem it but we are."

The pressure will be on Jackson to take Rovers into the Dr Martens Premier after missing out on a top seven spot this season and going so close the year before.

Jackson told Rovers fans last Saturday: "I can't promise anything. All I know is I have done well over the last two or three years.

"I have seen you go up and where you are at the moment. I think we have got a good crowd of players who need confidence and hopefully I can come and do that for you."
