A MUSCLE spasm in his groin has put a halt to John Williams' involvement for Kidderminster Harriers in the last two matches at Aggborough.

But the veteran forward was predictably far happier after the latest fixture against Cambridge United on Saturday.

Williams' injury occurred when miscuing a shot into the stand against Doncaster inside the first 10 minutes.

But when the problem struck him again at the weekend, the ex-Coventry man had just thundered home an excellent late Division Three equaliser.

Despite the trouble, Williams feels he is finally finding his feet in the Harriers team and is raring to impress after boss Jan Molby extended his deal on a non-contract basis.

After his initial short-term contract ended, either party can now cancel the striker's stay at any time.

But Molby will not be in any rush to do that if Williams can stay fit and produce more of the obvious class he displayed in the 2-2 draw with Cambridge.

The 35-year-old, once among the quickest in the English game, admitted: "It's been a frustrating time. I hadn't started at home before the Doncaster game so I was very pleased to score here.

"The fans have been very patient and been brilliant with me. I would like to thank them for that.

"But let's not fool ourselves. It was only a draw against Cambridge when we had so many good chances in the first half. Their keeper pulled off some great saves."

About his new deal, Williams said: "The manager has been brilliant. He didn't have to give me anything.

"He's offered me a non-contract deal and it's up to me now.The pressure is on me to deliver. I hope it isn't the way forward in Division Three.

"I'm no spring chicken but if it keeps me on my toes and playing like I did against Cambridge, then I don't have a problem."

Williams played in a similar right-sided attacking role to his time at Swansea and hopes to be fit in time to retain the position in Saturday's FA Cup tie.
