MARTIN Weir is poised to give Worcester City a massive boost for tomorrow's FA Umbro Trophy third round clash with Bromley at St George's Lane (3pm).

The former Kidderminster Harriers defender, one of the key men in City's recent revival, could return to the side after injury.

A rib injury kept Weir out of the fine 3-2 win at Burton in midweek, but he trained last night and will have a fitness test before tomorrow's game.

Manager John Barton said: "I would say he has got a chance. What reaction he got to last night we don't know, but we will leave it as late as possible."

Midfielder Ian Cottrill is also back in contention after missing two games with a thigh injury.

City's win at Burton will put them in the right frame of mind for a crucial fixture.

Barton acknowledges that a good Trophy run can have spin-off effects on their battle to avoid relegation in the Dr Martens League Premier Division, as well as helping the St George's Lane club's financial position.

"OK, we have made a poor job of the league but we are still in everything we have entered other than the FA Cup.

"It keeps interest going and it can only be good for the lads to keep going in as many competitions as we possibly can," said Barton.

City will be favourites to beat their Ryman League Division One visitors, but Barton warned: "We are expecting them to put up a fight.

"It is a cup competition after all, and they are not going to come to Worcester without making a big fight of it. But we are ready for that."

Barton will revert to a 4-4-2 formation tomorrow, having played an extra man in midfield at Burton.

"What we did on Tuesday was horses for courses. You have to be flexible in your approach to games depending on the opposition, and be prepared to adapt yourselves accordingly."

He also believes the fans can play a big part tomorrow. "If the supporters can play their part like they have done since we came here, we can all achieve something together."

The replay date is Tuesday but if there is a positive result, City will entertain bottom club Grantham Town in the Dr Martens League Premier Division on Monday.
