FIVE troublemaking boys were summoned before the courts for lighting up fireworks in a public place. Robert Troth, aged 12, William Pinfield, 11, Albert Stanton, 11, William Peplow, 12, and Frank Crawford, aged ten, all of Bewell Head, were accused of lighting fireworks in Stourbridge Road. PC Walters said that they went late at night to Stourbridge Road School, opened two doors and threw some firecrackers into evening classes. They were summoned because a previous caution seemed to have no effect. The chairman said they deserved to be birched but instead they were each fined 2s 6d (12.5p).

SULPHUR skin lotion was being sold at W Corbett's, the chemist in Bromsgrove, for 1s (5p) a bottle. It was said to rid the skin of redness, roughness, tan, freckles and pimples and quickly bring back a healthy complexion.

ELEVEN-year-olds Henry Rea and Walter Halfpenny, of Stourbridge Street, and George Hatton, of Parkside, were summoned for maliciously damaging turnips and swedes to the amount of 2s (10p). The vegetables were the property of Joseph Tilt, of Birmingham Road. The chairman fined them 1s (5p) each plus 8d (3.5p) damages.

PRELIMINARY arrangements were being made for the Bromsgrove Poultry Show, which would take place on December 15 at the Market Hall. All the old classes would be maintained and amplified and there would be a new class for foul reared within six miles of Bromsgrove. Miss Cartwright, of Barnt Green, would give out the prizes. The total amount of money available of £69 - nearly £40 more than the year before. Special prizes of 12s 6d (62.5p) would be awarded to the best dressed duck and foul.

ALFRED Dolphin, aged 46, was hauled before the police court charged with refusing to do work suitable for his age and capability while an inmate in the Bromsgrove workhouse. The former fish hook maker was also charged with disorderly conduct in the workhouse. Mr T White and Mr J Green sentenced him to three months hard labour.
