ONE of last season's leading scorers in the Dr Martens Western Division will be a Stourport Swifts player next season if Dave Titterton has his way.

The Swifts boss is hoping to tie up a deal for the striker, a midfielder and another player to add to last week's capture of Stourbridge's Mark Jones.

Titterton aims to complete at least one of the transfers before the weekend as he waits for the in-demand players to make their decisions.

But he has failed to land two other targets from the Midland Alliance, including a highly-rated goalkeeper, due to high cash demands.

Titterton, who is working with the same budget as last season, admitted: "If I want to go over it, I will have to bring in sponsors to cover that money.

"But never once have they cut the budget at Stourport and that will continue to be the case next season.

"These three signings would be vital for us. I don't want to increase the numbers in the squad but I want to improve the quality.

"There will be a lot of work to do in pre-season which will start on July 5. The players know they have got to perform on a more consistent basis. Every manager is looking for that."

Titterton added: "We have good experience in the squad with Simon Marsh, Kerry Giddings and Jan Mulders.

"That is blended with young talent like John Shirley, Richard Ball, Duncan Willetts, John Newall and David Davies."
